Faced with a shortage of British coins, early American colonists had to rely on barter, currencies like wampum or tobacco, and foreign coins for their money supply. By 1755, the 13 colonies were issuing their own paper currencies. This currency used British denominations of pounds, shilling, and pence; if a "dollar" was referred to, it meant the Spanish Milled Dollar coin.
This package contains 9 examples of reproduction American paper colonial money. Included are the colonies of Georgia, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, and Virginia, as well as the city of New York, and the Continental Congress in Philadelphia.
For ages 8 years and above.
