Collection: Dice & Games of Chance in Early America
Dice games such as Hazard were popular tavern pastimes in 18th century America and are considered forerunners of many familiar dice games today. While gambling was sometimes frowned upon, dice were a common part of everyday life—used not only in games of chance but also in a wide range of board games and informal amusements.
Traditionally made from materials such as wood, bone, or ivory, dice were simple, portable, and widely used. Our wooden dice set reflects this tradition, offering a direct connection to historic play. Our pewter dice set draws on another aspect of early American life, inspired by soldiers who, while idle in camp, fashioned crude dice from musket balls for entertainment.
